-                اهداف طراحی MPLS توسط طراحان

    1 -    MPLS باید قادر به پشتیبانی هر نوع فناوری لایه دوم باشد و فقط          منحصر به ATM  و Frame Relay   نباشد.

2-     MPLS باید باپروتکل های مختلف مسیر یابی سازگار باشد.(Rip,ospf,..)

3-     در MPLS باید قابلیت مجتمع سازی ترافیک پشتیبانی شود. در اینصورت امکان ارسال ترافیک های متنوع کاربران از طریق یک مسیر واحد فراهم می آید.

       4-     MPLS باید قابلیت مسسیر یابی چند

                        مسیره را داشته باشد.
